Overview

Swim lane mapping provides an innovative approach to process redesign, allowing a clear understanding of the interaction between care providers, and between care providers and clients.  The process brings together stakeholders, in an energizing and affirming process, building on the expertise of the entire team.

 

Integrating process with the information and people involved, Swim Lane mapping allows visualization of the entire patient experience, and enables identification of redundancies, bottlenecks, unnecessary handoffs, and opportunities to ensure a more client focused approach to service delivery. They provide a simple means of integrating process with the information and people involved, identifying who does what and when, with what resources, and can be used to determine the critical metrics of a process, e.g. wait times.
